Jarrod Lawson, singer/songwriter/keyboardist, was born to music. Jarrod’s first memories were made while exploring his father’s recording studio on 5th Avenue in Redwood City, California, their residence at the time. No doubt, Jarrod's early gravitation to the drum-set cultured his unquestionable deep-rooted rhythmic foundation. At the age of 13, when Jarrod's insatiable intrigue for harmony bloomed, the piano became the logical next move. Although, initially a student of his father, Steven, Jarrod quickly and naturally chose a path of self instruction, following his adept ears to the final educational result, and thus, veritably, his teachers became the musical masters his ears led him to: Frederíc Chopin, Maurice Ravel, Oscar Peterson, Errol Garner, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, and so on. Out of high-school, Jarrod enrolled in the Clackamas Community College music program, singing in the Chamber Choir as well as singing and playing piano for the vocal jazz ensemble. Jarrod's spare time was spent fervently composing and creating all manner of melodies, harmonic progressions, and lyrical passages. He had been greatly blessed to come into the grace and presence of legendary local singer and keyboardist, Bobby James, a name that, among certain well-seasoned circles, demands an almost reverential admiration. James, perhaps Jarrod's most important musical mentor of all, clearly left his indelible mark, evident in Jarrod's trifold, multi-tasking approach, covering both the keyboard comp/solo and left hand bass roles, as well as spreading soulful lead vocals over the top of it all. Now, well on his way to making a name for himself in the Pacific Northwest, Jarrod has shared the stage with such international acts as Average White Band, Maceo Parker, Angelique Kidjo, Bilal, and Olivia Warfield.
